Residential Landscaping
There are two distinct aspects of residential gardening:
- Indoor residential landscaping
- Outdoor residential landscaping
Indoor Residential Landscaping
The main objective of indoor residential landscaping is to infuse some vitality and spice up the interiors. The best way to add life to your rooms is to decorate them with indoor flowering plants in pots or bonsais or indoor palm plants of various species.
You can arrange your indoor plants in pots or containers, covered in patterned cane baskets or hang them in beautifully designed ceramic pots or clay pots from your balcony or window. Or you can place your potted plant on a stand.
You can soften the stiff look of the corners of the room where the two walls join, by keeping a potted flowering plant in front of the junction in a decorative brass container. Entrance lobbies, attached patios, even the window sills or attached balconies in drawing rooms or living rooms can be spruced up through the addition of medium height bushes.
This kind of landscaping is perfect for oriental decorating theme, often seen in luxury hotels, big ticket shopping malls, high end office complexes and in the homes of the rich and famous.
Outdoor Residential Landscaping
Most houses or properties are surrounded by an empty stretch of land, however big or small, the frontal portion of which is transformed into a lawn or garden and the rear side of which is popularly termed back yard, yard, rear yard etc.
There are different rules and design sensibilities applicable for different parts of the outdoor landscape in your house. Decorations will take into account factors like usability, purpose, functionality of the plot of land.
For e.g. the backyard is usually used for hanging clothes or washing utensils or feeding your pets. This secluded area, that can’t be seen from the front, has a functional purpose and therefore most people desist from splurging on decorations in this area.
A well manicured kitchen garden is the only design feature usually found in backyards. At times there is a swimming pool.
The front that is the lawn is landscaped with a lot of care by throwing in beautifully manicured flower gardens, graveled walks, marble statues and fountains, a small duck pond, rustic fencing, artificial waterfalls, wooden footbridge over meandering brooks, stone benches, rock gardens, vines and ivy, Victorian lighting system etc.
Nowadays terrace gardens or roof gardens are becoming hugely popular and many home owners are opting for this exotic look.
