Pond Landscaping
With rising paychecks and higher spending powers, splurging on designing your garden and adding intricate and expensive decorations to modify and redefine the look of your lawn or patio or garden are no longer the exclusive bastions of the stinking rich who’s who of society. But what will spice up the look of your landscaped garden and lend some pizzazz is pond landscaping.
Just imagine a cute little duck pond in the middle of your lush green garden/lawn with a quaint little rustic wooden footbridge arching over it. Water lilies and lotus blossoms will adorn the surface of the pond, clucking ducks and furry little ducklings will splash around in the water, little goldfishes and colorful varieties of cute fishes will grace the azure aquatic body.
You can place a marble statue in the middle of the pond that will be inspired by the design of pre-Raphaelite era with a gushing fountain at the top of the statue. If you have enough space in your garden or ground, you can go for a large pond or lake with boating facilities and add a sweet little verdant isle in the middle, connected to the mainland garden by the footbridge.
The islet can house a wooden seating arrangement in the midst of colorful flower beds with white furry rabbits or guinea pigs with pink lips and ears running hither and thither. The pond may be surrounded by a graveled pavement or walkway lined with pebbles, rocks, shrubs and flowering bushes.
At intervals, you can build stone benches from where you can admire the tranquil beauty of nature. If you have the means and if the topography allows such liberties, you can make your garden pond culminate in an artificial serene waterfall, complete with rocks and vines.
Throw in a proper Victorian lighting arrangement to complete the look. The lighting should be such that it would illuminate the pond but at the same time, it should be mellow. The lights may be placed on Victorian wrought iron lampposts or may be concealed inside trees or inside shrubs on the ground in such a way that they focus on the pond.
The pond can be round or oval or square or rectangular or kidney shaped or 8 shaped or crescent shaped.
The mass adulation/frenzy and collective gasps of delight and wonder that will follow the unveiling of the enchantingly arresting pond will testify to the fact that you have succeeded in recreating the fairy-tale beauty of a fairy land in your own humble garden.
Don’t be surprised if you find fairies and pixies and goblins and cherubs frolicking in your landscaped pond in a midsummer night’s dream.
