There are separate landscaping requirements for separate kinds of yards. A small yard has to be decorated beautifully incorporating all the necessary design elements without making it look clumsy or cramped. Landscaping for a small yard requires a lot of skill and the key feature is optimum utilization of space.

Again the design requirements of a back yard will differ from that of front yard.
Back yards usually are hidden from view, being located at the rear portion of a house. That is why backyards are reserved for functional purposes like putting out clothes to dry, washing of utensils, keeping a bird house or a rabbit pen, feeding pets, growing a kitchen garden etc.

Many people ignore their back yards but I would advice you to landscape your back yard along with your front yard instead of leaving your decoration half done.
Front yard landscaping can be done incorporating a number of ideas. First and foremost, assess the size of your yard, the type of soil and the climate pattern of your abode.

This has to be done regardless of whether you are landscaping your front or back yard, a small yard or a big one. On the basis of the soil type and weather, select plants, flowering trees, shrubs, bushes etc.

Plant them in such a way that they are well spaced out. Don’t go for exotic varieties of flora as you might not be able to handle them properly. Native plants which are low maintenance are better ideas.

Depending on the size of your yard, select one of the countless landscaping themes that are making their rounds in the gardening circles. On the basis of that theme, incorporate materials and elements which will enhance the look of your yard.

Incorporating a pool or some other kind of water body like duck pond/fountain, flower gardens, rock gardens, paved graveled walkways, stone seating arrangements, Victorian lighting arrangements, marble statues, stone walls and borders, aquatic varieties of flora and fauna for your pond etc will spruce up the look of your yard.
